Sigourney Weaver (Susan Alexandra (Sigourney) Weaver) is a popular Hollywood actress most notably known for Ridley Scott's film Alien (1979) as Ellen Ripley. She's a very influential figure in fiction and popular culture in Hollywood.

During her lifetime Weaver has received many honors, including but not limited to two Golden Globe Awards a British Academy Film Award. She also received nominations for three Academy Awards, three Screen Actors Council Awards, and three Tony Awards. Susan Alexandra Weaver was born on October 8, 1949, in Manhattan, New York. At first, her father wanted to name her Flavia because of his passion for Roman history (he had formerly named her elder family Trajan). Her father, Sylvester Weaver, was the chairman of NBC Television. Her mother, Elizabeth Inglish, also was an American actress.

She grew up in the entertainment business from the moment she was born. She started to address herself as Sigourney from 14, after the minor character's name in  Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.

After graduating from Standford in 1972 with a B.A. in English, she moved back to Connecticut, where she studied acting at Yale Drama School until she got her Master's in Fine art in 1974.
